Overview

The retreat leadership seeks applicants who are most ready to make good use of the time and support provided at the retreatwho have a clear idea of what they will write about and can bring to the retreat materials that will allow them to make significant progress on their work.

Applicants will be notified of the selection team's decision by Friday, April 27, 2007.

Your complete application will consist of

Application Questions

Please answer the following questions (limit: 2 pages).

  1. At what school do you currently work? Which department?
  2. What has been your writing experience?
  3. What is your interest in participating in the retreat?
  4. What are you planning to write about? If you are considering more than one idea at this point, briefly describe each one.
  5. How would you describe the potential relevance of your writing to your colleagues, your local writing project site, or your school community?
  6. What is your involvement in the work of your local writing project?
  7. OPTIONAL: If you've been involved in a professional writing retreat at your site, or if you plan to provide leadership in this area, briefly describe your activities and/or plans.

Letter of Support

This application requires a brief letter from the director or co-director of your site indicating support for your continued writing and leadership at the site. Please ask your site director or co-director to respond to the email inquiry he or she will receive after you have submitted your writing retreat application online. Your application will not be complete until we receive your letter of support.

Submission Instructions

Participation in Writing Retreat A is by online application only. In order to submit your application, type your answers in a word processing program and save the document. You may either upload this file as an attachment to your application or copy and paste the text manually into the text box provided.

Selection

The pool of participants chosen will be as representative as possible of the geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project. It will include teacher-consultants and site leaders—kindergarten through university—with a range of writing interests, experience, and content-area knowledge.

Retreat A is limited to 20 participants.
