2005 Professional Writing Retreat A

Writing Your Draft

June 16–19, 2005

The Inn at Sunrise Springs
Santa Fe, New Mexico

This retreat is designed for writers who have a clear idea of what they will write about and who are ready to spend sustained time doing so. On-site writing coaches and editors provide support for writers. Through participation in small writing groups and other opportunities to share writing, participants become part of a community of writers. The structure of the retreat is designed to accommodate writers at all levels of development.

Retreat activities include:

  • long stretches of time to write
  • responses from writing group members
  • one-on-one conferences with editors
  • a workshop on professional writing
  • publication of an anthology of "intermediate" drafts.
Retreat A is limited to 20 participants.

Participation in the retreat is by application only. The pool of participants chosen will be as representative as possible of the geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project. It will include teacher-consultants and site leaders—kindergarten through university—with a range of writing interests, experience, and content-area knowledge.

Applications are no longer being accepted.
Applicants will be notified by April 25, 2005.
