2005 Professional Writing Retreat B

Professional Writing Retreats

2005 Professional Writing Retreat B
Editing and Publication

June 23 - June 26, 2005
The Inn at Sunrise Springs
Santa Fe, New Mexico

This retreat is designed to help writers near the end of the writing process. Like Retreat A, it is designed to support writing about the teaching profession. This retreat, however, is tailored for writers who have a completed draft.

Retreat activities include:

  • line editing for clarity, economy, style, and precision
  • documenting sources accurately
  • integrating and using sources thoughtfully
  • choosing appropriate journals or other professional publications
  • writing query and cover letters.

Participants will leave this retreat with a manuscript ready for publication. Equally important, participants will leave with a set of skills and practices that will enable them to support publication efforts at their local site.

Retreat B is limited to 15 participants.

Participation in the retreat is by application only. The pool of participants chosen will be as representative as possible of the geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project. It will include teacher-consultants and site leaders—kindergarten through university—with a range of writing interests, experience, and content-area knowledge.

Applications are no longer being accepted.
Applicants will be notified by April 25, 2005.

Travel and Lodging

NWP will cover the cost of double-occupancy rooms and meals. Participants are responsible for travel costs and incidentals. (Local sites may be able to help with travel expenses.)
