2007 Professional Writing Retreat A
Writing Your Draft

June 14 - June 17, 2007
Sunrise Springs
Santa Fe, New Mexico

This retreat is designed for writers who have a clear idea of what they will write about and are ready to spend sustained time doing so. Through sharing their work in small groups and other contexts, participants become part of a community of writers. The retreat is structured to accommodate writers at all levels of development, with facilitators and editors on site to provide support.

Retreat activities include

  • long stretches of time to write
  • response from writing group members
  • one-on-one conferences with editors and facilitators
  • a workshop on professional writing
  • publication of an anthology of intermediate drafts.

How to Apply

Participation in this retreat is by online application only. Download the Application Overview and Questions (PDF). Complete your application, then send it by clicking on "Submit Your Application" below.

The pool of participants chosen will be as representative as possible of the geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project. It will include teacher-consultants and site leaders—kindergarten through university—with a range of writing interests, experience, and content-area knowledge.

Retreat A is limited to 20 participants.

Travel and Lodging

NWP will cover the cost of meals and double-occupancy rooms. Participants are responsible for travel costs and incidentals. (Local sites may be able to help with travel expenses.)
