Cohort 3

Ten writing project sites are involved in the third cohort of the Project Outreach initiative. Since March 2006, these sites have been studying ways to expand their capacity to better serve teachers of students in low-income communities and diversify leadership at their sites.  Participating sites will disseminate the lessons learned from their site-based inquiries throughout the NWP network of sites. Cohort 1

In 1995, the DeWitt Wallace–Reader's Digest Fund awarded a grant to the National Writing Project to support an initial group of eighteen sites interested in increasing the quantity and quality of National Writing Project services to teachers in low-income communities. This initiative, called Project Outreach, was built on a belief in the tremendous capacities of all children and a commitment to extending a professional development community to their teachers.
