Summary: San Diego Writing Project Hosts International Conference The San Diego Area Writing Project will host the 11th annual International Conference on Teacher Research (ICTR), April 15–17, 2004. The conference is designed for educators investigating classroom practice in a time of changing views in research and educational policies.
When the organizers of the 11th annual International Conference on Teacher Research (ICTR) were looking at locations for this years conference, they were attracted to La Jolla, California, for a couple of reasons. One reason was that La Jolla provides climate and atmosphere hard to duplicate this side of the French Riviera. The other was the existence, at La Jollas University of California, San Diego, of the San Diego Area Writing Project, which will have the honor of hosting the ICTR event April 1517, 2004.
ICTR 2004 will address the issues of changing research in schools and educational policies through discussion of teaching practices and personal stories. Educators will have a chance to interact with colleagues and presenters, sharing their own personal experiences from classroom observation, data analysis, professional development workshops, and more.
The conference begins on Thursday, April 15, with classroom visitations. Conference sessions will be held the last two days at the Radisson Hotel La Jolla Conference Center.
Many of these sessions will depart from the generic. Conferees will be able to attend sessions in four formats:
- Work in Progress: Presenters will share work they are doing and ask participants to become involved as critical friends of their inquiry.
- Round Table Conversation: Current studies will be presented raising questions and describing methodology and results that will engage participants with the issues presented.
- Professional Development: Teacher-researchers with an expertise in a certain area will lead a discussion or demonstration.
- Aesthetic Presentations: These presentations take the form of performance, such as poetry reading, poster sessions, or storytelling.
The Radisson Hotel La Jolla is offering spacious guest rooms at a discounted rate to ICTR participants. Further details on registration, conference format, and hotel registration can be found on the San Diego Area Writing Project website.
