Excerpt

I often see many teachers' responses to students' work and they are basically critical elaborations of the mistakes made in achieving accepted notions of literacy and numeracy. Many of the students I teach suffer from having low opinions of themselves and of their work. This is a problem which is surely reinforced by insensitive responses from the readers of their writing.
