Summary: There's still time! Proposals for sessions at the NWP Annual Meeting 2001 in Baltimore are being accepted through Friday, May 18, 2001.

There's still time to submit a session proposal for the 2001 National Writing Project Annual Meeting. But hurry--all proposals must be postmarked or emailed no later than Friday, May 18, 2001. This year's meeting, scheduled in conjunction with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention, November 15-20, will be held Thursday through Saturday, November 15-17, in Baltimore.
Site directors, co-directors, and teachers are encouraged to submit proposals, and the NWP Annual Meeting program team hopes to create a mix of such presenters in the session line-up. Preference will be given to proposals that include session leaders from more than one site, as well as proposals designed to include the expertise of session participants. In some instances, multiple topics may be combined to create a single session.

Each year's meeting features sessions on a range of topics. Of particular interest are sessions on teaching writing, standards, diversity, ELL issues, teacher research, developing site leadership, inservice, teacher demonstrations, community partnerships, reading/writing connections, evaluation/documentation, and technology in the classroom.

Overall criteria for the selection of sessions include the following:

  • relevance of topic to NWP sites
  • diversity of topics
  • geographic location of the session leaders
  • interactive, participatory design of the session.

Specific details in regard to submitting a proposal can be obtained on the NWP Web site (http://archive.nwp.org/cs/public/print/events/9) or from any local site director or network leader. Questions about the proposals should be directed to Joye Alberts at jalbert@okstate.edu.
