Summary: Each year, the NWP Directors Retreat brings together teams of site directors and co-directors to explore the NWP model and core values, the challenges of site administration, and more. The 2002 retreat will be held at Jeronimo's Resort and Conference Center in upstate New York's scenic Hudson Valley, June 12-16, 2002.

Details of next year's National Writing Project Directors Retreat are now available. The annual gathering—now in its seventh year—kicks off Wednesday, June 12, and runs through Sunday, June 16, 2002. This year's setting is Jeronimo's Resort and Conference Center, Walker Valley, in upstate New York's scenic Hudson Valley.

Each year, the directors retreat brings together teams of site directors and co-directors to explore the NWP model and core values, the challenges of site administration, site roles in local, state, and national school reform, and more. Retreat participants typically include a diverse group of new and experienced site leaders who share mutual interests in such topics as site relationships to host and funding agencies, site capacity, teacher leadership, and professional conversations at and among sites. Participants will enjoy breathtaking views of the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson Valley during five days of networking, reflective practice, learning, and visioning for site growth.

The National Writing Project will pay on-site expenses for thirty participants (double occupancy). This includes lodging, breakfast, lunch, and two group evening meals. Travel expenses and alternative meal costs are the responsibility of the individual sites. To get to the resort, participants should fly into one of the New York City area airports (LaGuardia, Newark, or JFK) and drive or carpool from there. (For specific directions, check the resort's website at www.jeronimo.com.)

The registration deadline for the retreat is May 1, 2002, and attendance is limited. Participants are asked to arrive by 2 p.m. on Wednesday and to stay through 11 a.m. on Sunday.
