I introduced the students to the concept of spoken word and slam poetry, sharing some of my work and offering them time and a space to share their own.

It didn't take long for them to get up and share their own work.

"When you see me walking down the street, what do you think of me? Do you think I'm a cholo, a criminal, a thief? Just cause of how I dress, cuz of the way I speak?"
