Adolescent Literacy Reports from Carnegie Corporation Detail Plan of Action
Date: January 2010
Summary: Time to Act: An Agenda for Advancing Adolescent Literacy for College and Career Success sets out a national agenda for fully supporting young learners and using evidence-based case studies to boost adolescent literacy rates.
Time to Act and its five corresponding reports, which summarize lessons learned through the Carnegie Corporation of New York's Council on Advancing Adolescent Literacy and are all available for download here, identify adolescent literacy as a cornerstone of educational reform. The reports make recommendations for teacher preparation, support, and professional development, and issue a call for reengineering change at school, district, and state levels.
National Writing Project audiences will be interested in Time to Act's final chapter, "A Call to Action: Where to Begin," in which NWP is mentioned as a successful professional development organization. The report recommends to "seek out help as needed from national organizations such as the National Writing Project."
