Teaching Writing in the Digital Age

Date: November 3, 2010

Summary: Joel Malley of the Western New York Writing Project created this video to document his writing instruction in a digital classroom.

Joel Malley, English language arts teacher at Cheektowaga Central High School in Buffalo, NY, and teacher-consultant with the Western New York Writing Project, discusses the critical role writing plays in his digital classroom.

Even though my class has gone digital, writing still forms the foundation of all the things we do. Students may record podcasts and create documentaries or write blogs, but storytelling is the basis for everything. Regardless if my students are in AP literature, English 10, or Mass Media and Film Production, the first step of every project is to write extensively.
