NWP Radio—Sharing Our Knowledge: Reaching Out to a New Congress

Summary: Several writing project sites are organizing to reach out to their legislators to educate them about the work and impact of their writing projects and about educational issues in their areas.

We asked our teacher-consultants to sign up for Twitter, and we held a couple of Twitter forums, or early morning meetings, to essentially "show them the ropes" of tweeting. We practiced daily by adding Twitter to the conversation, and by doing this, our teacher-consultants looked at Twitter as a way to share information.
We are connected to our legislature through Twitter, and it's becoming the avenue where we shoot out short messages about our work and tag our senators and representatives in the tweet. This almost feels like a safe, easy, and comfortable way to start our teacher-consultants on advocacy.
