Excerpt from Article

BearsWrite offers middle school students a chance to spend a week writing both in traditional and digital formats," said Donna Wake, program co-director and assistant professor in the [UCA] teaching and learning department. "We will have an author's reception on the last day of camp to showcase the students' writing."

National Writing Project teaching consultants and undergraduate and graduate teaching candidates will teach students. The focus of the camp will be how to use voice, setting, word choice, character traits, and point-of-view narration in writing. The camp will include experiences with guest speakers and field trips on campus. Students will also spend a day at the Arkansas Art Center.

Campers will create a digital collection of their writings during the camp and put on a public performance and reception for parents and community members. They will also build their own individual digital portfolio of their best work.
