Writing on the Bus

Summary: In this episode of NWP Radio, we spend the hour talking about the relationship of writing to athletic performance and learning. We are joined by Rich Kent—director of the University of Maine Writing Project and author of Writing on the Bus: Using Athletic Team Notebooks and Journals to Advance Learning and Performance in Sports—as well as several teachers, coaches, and athletes.

Rich Kent, director of the University of Maine Writing Project, in response to the writing prompts for analyzing games and competitions:
I think the prompts on these two pages help athletes look more objectively at a competition they played in or one that they've watched. So really what I try to do with these pages is help athletes look at their performances or at a particular game through a coach's lens, step back from the game or the competition, to create a kind of objectivity through their writing. As you know and many of our listeners will probably know, this is all about writing to learn.
