Excerpt from Show

Abdel Shakur, 9th Grade English teacher at the Chicago High School for the Arts, on why he thinks The Best Teen Writing is valuable for his students:

Seeing the kind of reaction that they have, that their writing is something that could go in a book. And it doesn't have to wait ten years; you could actually get it published now if you really work on it. It really is helpful as a writer for them to see. I think it's inspirational. When they look at the writing, some of it is really amazing and they can connect with it on a personal level."
