Join us during cherry blossom month for the next NWP Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C., April 5–6, 2001. There will be a large crew of new members of Congress this spring and, depending on the outcome of the fall elections, congressional support for the writing project could be more crucial than ever. Don't miss this chance to promote your site to new senators and representatives while they are still fresh and eager to serve their constituents.

The D.C. meeting begins on Thursday morning, April 5, in the regal Mansfield Room on the Senate side of the Capitol Building, followed by an afternoon of personal visits to members of Congress. The Thursday night reception is a great place to mingle with your writing project peers and swap stories of the day's adventures. Friday, April 6, is devoted to a series of workshops conducted by site leaders and teacher-consultants from across the country—a smaller, more personal version of our fall Annual Meeting.

We've selected a new, better venue for the 2001 D.C. meeting, the Phoenix Park Hotel, just one block from beautiful Union Station and a quick walk to the Capitol Building and the National Mall. Participants should make their own travel arrangements and hotel reservations. Call the Phoenix Park Hotel at (800) 824-5419 by Friday, March 2, and mention the National Writing Project to get the reduced rate of $139/single or double; $159 triple/quadruple. To register for the meeting, email irogers@uclink.berkeley.edu or call (510) 642-0963.
