Images from the book, Some People Are Brave, written and illustrated by Dawn Imamoto's second grade students. Before the attacks, Imamoto's class had been working on a unit on bravery, which included Florence Parry Heide's book, Some Things Are Scary. Imamoto, a teacher at the Area 3 Writing Project at UC Davis in California, decided to use Heide's book as a model for her students to create their own publication based on their understanding of bravery in the context of the events of September 11, 2001.
