A Conversation with National Student Poets
Date: April 6, 2017
Summary: Each year, five National Student Poets are chosen from a pool of outstanding writers, grades 9-11, who have received a national Scholastic Art & Writing Award for poetry. Listen as we celebrate National Poetry Month with a conversation and some poetry reading with this year's National Student Poets.
Excerpt from Show
Student poet Gopal Raman, describing his approach to poetry:
What I try to do in my work is approach poetry through visual art....You're given an image and then you just see how that image affects you and what can possibly come out of that....Whenever I teach a workshop, I don't usually have a theme to it...instead it's more like here's a collection of art, see how these images affect your life. If they don't that's totally fine, but if they do, there's real potential there."
