Excerpt from Show
Carla Truttman, Inservice Coordinator at the Northern California Writing Project, explains some key principles for building client relationships:
First, you have to really identify key personnel, regardless of the level, whether it's a district or school, and work to foster a mutually beneficial relationship; it's not only good for you, it's good for them as well. Another key principle is to capitalize on the human resources that already exist: what teachers do we have out there that have attended an institute or been present at a site professional development that we can use to talk us up? Actively listen to the needs and obstacles of all parties involved so that we can kind of create an integrated professional development plan that meets our clients where they are."
