NWP Adds Ten New Sites to the Network
By: NWP Staff
Publication:
The Voice, Vol. 8, No. 2
Date: March-April 2003
Summary: Ten new sites were added to the NWP network this year, bringing the total number to 175. Find out if there is a new site near you!
The National Writing Project network has expanded by another ten sites this year.
The new sites bring the total number of sites to 175, joining a network that now
spans all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The
new sites officially began their work on February 1, 2003, and each will hold
its first summer institute this summer (2003).
Each year, NWP receives about 30 new-site inquiries. Completed new-site applications are due in September, after which the applications are evaluated by a team of NWP senior staff members and representative site leaders who examine each application for everything from university affiliation to goals to budget proposals. Funding for new sites is competitive and tied by legislation to the NWP model. For further information about starting a local writing project site, visit the National Writing Project website at archive.nwp.org/cs/public/print/doc/nwpsites/start_a_site.csp.
