Writing poetry can also be a key to writing prose. You learn distillation of language, to be concise, the use of imagery, surprise, detail, specificity poetics–simile, metaphor, personification alliteration, paying attention to the sound of words–all of which have application in prose. You pay attention to the particularities, the nuances of language; you can get to your greatest potential in language.
